Cancer Symptoms

Lump on side of left neck, thought it was a cyst, after two weeks it wasn’t smaller so ENT biopsied lump and left tonsil – abnormal cells found. Tonsillectomy one week later revealed squamous cell carcinoma in left tonsil and mass in neck.

Surgery Description, Dates & Side Effects

Tonsillectomy – 11/14/11 – extreme sore throat, difficulty swallowing. Partial neck dissection 4/4/12 – removed cancerous lymph node (there were no remaining active cancer cells) and surrounding lymph nodes (all clean).

Radiation or Proton Therapy Description, Dates & Side Effects

Starting radiation about 12/19/11. Ended radiation 2/15/12

Chemotherapy Description, Dates & Side Effects

Comments:

Dont be afraid to eat as much as you can now before your throat gets sore from radiation. Drink all of the water also that you can to stay hydrated.

Looks as though you have a good support system there with your husband and kids. Will think positive thoughts for you as you begin chemo on the 19th.
