Cancer Survivor

Biography

I was born in Lima, the capitol of Peru, on January 26, 1976. After I finished school I studied English, but was never able to get a job in the career I had trained for. I started a business selling Peruvian handicrafts, with a small amount of capital, trading in hand-made products such as hardwood kitchen utensils, wool garments from the Andes and other things, from my principal market city, Lima. Doing this, I earned a small income, to help my husband with the cost of running our home and raising our child, until I came down with cancer in 2004.

I was not so shocked when the doctor told me about the ganglio lymphoma lump, since I had already undergone great suffering when both my mother and my maternal grandmother died from uterine cancer. My mother passed away in July 2000 and not long afterward, in June 2004, so did my grandmother. I was quite sad that I couldn’t attend her funeral, as I was already receiving chemotherapy treatment.

So, before my own downfall, I had already learned how malignant cancer was, and I had also learned my first lesson in courage—how to fight and endure the illness. I try to emulate them in the valor and dignity they exhibited as their disease worsened. My own pain is more for my little son, Adrian (4). He is now almost motherless, as well as having lost his grandmother and great-grandmother.

I am now a patient in the best Peruvian Cancer hospital: Instituto Nacional de Enfermedades Neoplasicas – INEN. But, despite it being the best one in my country, I need to know if I am receiving the best treatment available (described below) for my case, I will be extremely grateful to hear from any other persons who have survived this kind of cancer and would also appreciate knowing the opinions of other doctors who specialize in this illness. I’ll send additional information as needed, on request. See my photo gallery, please.
