Biography

Story starts in 2008 when I was in Britan. I was feeling tired, breathing problems and body pains. My sinusitis mislead all of these. On my insist, my GP at NHS refered to ENT Dept for a CT of Head. Its my bad, nothing found except my existing sinusitis.

Two years later in Augusat 2010, my friend noticed a lump on my lower neck part and that alerted me to see a doctor.I visited a General Phisician who then refered for Thyroib blood tests and USG of Thyroid where a cold nodule was seen. All blood reports were normal. I felt happy for that not knowing about the monster growing inside me.

Looking at the reports, my GP explained me about thyroid nodules and chances of having malignancy. They generated intrest in me to go thru Thy deseases. Thyca was my first hit, found much useful information.Studied all malignancies, trends and different types of diagnosis and treatment. My GP refered me to a FNAC/B test, which didnot confirm anything but suggested nodule exicion and biopsy. This drove me to a surgeon – onc in our city – I had my first half-RTLOBE removed in Oct 2010. On frozen biopsy didnt tell anything so I had to wait until the final biopsy comesout. A week later, recoved from surgery very fast, biopsy shown – Follicular Variant of Papillary Carcinoma. My Surgeon’s PA called me to visit the Hospital immediately. I rushed to Hospital with my cousin and met Surgeon Onc. I hated the word Cancer from my surgeon, was into shock, donot know how to react, asked him many questions..many inthe sense lot many. He answered me not all but many. I loved his statement – “Thyroid cancer is the one which isnt going to kill you” – at that moment.

I searched then for an experienced surgeon who deals with Onc and head and Neck. I have got our national surgeons superindant, chief surgeon of the hospital back, so consulted him. He said nothing to worry, “If you have ever had to get a cancer, then thyroid is the one”.I loved the statement, that filled hope. Asked me to plan for the other half removed, date confirmed a day on November first week 2010.

I was very disturbed, my mental condition was very bad. All I had was friends around me supporting me in everywhere, except hearing me on desease because they dont want to discuss, they think that it lowers my positive energy but that period was soo difficult. I could nt call my parents since they cannot bare this as I am only child to them. I told them just a goiter nothing to worry. Second surgery was not so scary, since it wasnt new for me :) Surgery went fine and recovery was quick. Then my surgeon refered to me a Nuclear Medicine expert who deals with RAi and Thyroid Hormones since long.He asked me to be on diet for 3 weeks, which wasnt difficult for me as I never liked the food based on taste. I eat anything for living…LOL.

The date finalised for RAI in Jan 11 first week and RAI was done with 100 mCi.I suffered on savilaries for quite sometime and no other problems. 5 days later I had a complete body scan to see presence of Thyroid cells post surgery. There were some found on thyroid bed which lightened up on full body scan. No sign of metastat.

I am on 200mcg of thyroxine now, there were many troubles in adjusting with the dosage but yeah my doc asks me to see him after 5 months from RAI to check the TSH not like everyone else who takes up every 2 months or so. Thats due by June. However I planning to see a experienced Endo in Thycas soon after June. I guess 200mcg is good enough to keep my tsh supressed since the calculation is 1mcg for 1pound of body weight.

KEEPING POSITIVE. ENJOYING EVERY MOMENT to the FULLEST. :)

Kumar,

Welcome to BFAC, I’m happy you found me! :)

You are so lucky that the low iodine diet was not hard on you, I have the worst time on it! What kind of job lets you eat anything for living? I think I’d be poor, I’m so picky!

Your parents do know now, don’t they? Being an only child, I’m sure they would offer you a lot of support as well.

I agree with you, an experienced endo is a great idea! You should probably call now and get an appt. set up with one incase the wait time is long.

Take Care, Lisa
