Biography

My dad was diagnosed with colon cancer about 7 years ago at the age of 50 after he ate a bag of peanuts at the Angels/Yankees ballgame. The bag of peanuts caused him to bleed and lead to a colonoscopy. After a “successful” surgery to remove half of his colon, the cancer returned 7 years later in his liver. He, luckily, was part of a small percentage of people whose cancer spread to the liver who can undergo surgery. The surgery was in March 07 and after a month or 2 of recovery, the doc immediately started him on Eloxatin and 5fu (i think that’s what it is). Chemo sucks, so he just stays at home all day and watches the birds outside and tv inside. His appetite sucks and he is very sensitive to cold, but overall he is a trooper! I thought this would be a good place to learn about other’s stories and maybe vent a little for my dad and show my support! :)

Update: I want to add Thyroid Cancer to my list of cancers that I support. My twin sister was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer a couple months ago, had the entire thing removed, had radiation and now trying to get the right dose of meds. It’s been an interesting year for sure. There was one point where my dad was on the third floor of Kaiser getting chemo and my sis was on the second floor getting her thyroid removed. Interesting to say the least. Well my dad is done with chemo and feeling great. His numbers have improved and there is no cancer in sight right now. Woo hoo! I’m hoping 2008 will be cancer-free for the family! :)
