User InformationCancer SymptomsSevere abdominal pain, bloating (3 litres of ascites removed from abdomen in early Jan., 2006), severe Irritable Bowel Syndrome symptoms masked OVCA symptoms Surgery Description, Dates & Side Effectsremoval of avaries (had had hysterectomy in 1981 but they left both ovaries at that time), omentum, several lymph nodes, Jan. 31, 2006. Optimum debulking. Surgical scar runs from just above pubic bone to just under breasts. Gyn/Onc told me I had an enormous omentum, much larger than “normal”, making the huge scar necessary for complete removal. She installed an InterPeritoneal Port for IP chemo at the time of the surgery. Had serious pain for weeks following surgery; also had 2 pulmonary emboli as a result of surgery, requiring treatment with Warfarin. Because of PEs, chemo was delayed 2 weeks. Chemotherapy Description, Dates & Side EffectsHad 2 courses of CarboPlatin and Taxol via vascualr Port; followed by 4 courses of IP chemo with Cisplatin and Taxol, one course every 3 weeks, requiring 3 days in hospital each time. Could only tolerate 4 courses because side effects were too severe: nausea, vomiting, constipation and diarrhea, ototoxicity resulting in some permanent hearing loss in left ear and also tinitus, tingling, numbness and pain in hands and feet (apparently permanent), and “chemo brain” – no short term memory, fogginess, confusion, and exhaustion. Serious loss of weight as well. Last 2 courses of chemo were via vascular port and the same as the first 2, and were tolerated fairly well. Immune Therapy Description, Dates & Side EffectsNeulasta shot after each chemo. |
