BiographyHi. I am a 37 year old female who was diagnosed with Tonsil Cancer on February 12, 2009. Tonsil Cancer?! I never knew such a thing existed. I am a true Gemini who loves thrill seeking. I am hoping to realize one of my dreams and go skydiving for the first time this summer. If anything, having been diagnosed with cancer has made me realize how precious life is and how short it can be. I want to do everything possible that I’ve dreamed of since I was little. For everyone that is wondering… I do go by Rose. My first name is pronounced E-Law-Nuh. LOL That’s why I stopped using my first name many years ago. Rose just seemed so much simplier. Cancer SymptomsNot many. I had a sore throat from a cold on New Year’s Day. I did notice difficulty swallowing about 2 months ago. The CT scan showed a level III (6mm x 3mm) lymph node. I have bad allergies in the Spring and Fall that usually make my lymph nodes & glands sore. This season I’ve noticed pain and a severe ache in the back of my head and behind my ears. Surgery Description, Dates & Side Effects04/10/09 (5 teeth extracted) (Side effect? Horrible, throbbing pain!) 04/24/09 PEG surgery (Side effects: a little oozing still and slight pain.) Hormone Therapy Description, Dates & Side EffectsAfter my complete hysterectomy in 2001 for severe endometriosis, I was taking Premarin. It really helped with the hot flashes (aka power surges) LOL. But I was later diagnosed with a blood clot condition, so I can no longer take Premarin or other hormone therapy. Thank goodness my power surges are few and far between! Immune Therapy Description, Dates & Side EffectsI don’t know if this is the right box to include the Alopecia Universalis I’ve had since I was 4 and 1/2. I lost all my hair in a matter of months. So far, they don’t have any treatments for it. Comments: |
Hello. I hope you are doing well.
I came across your page while searching into Tonsil Cancer. I when to my ENT Doctor for a disconfort in my ear that turn out to be a small hair in my ear. I don’t know how it got in there. Anyway, she notes one of my tonsil was enlarge. She gave me antibiotics to see if it when down but it didn’t. She then told me they associate that with cancer so she want me to have a Tonsillectomy to remove both of my tonsils.
I am concern because I really don’t know if I should go through the surgery. I when to have a second opinion and I was told he didn’t think it was so big to be concern or have surgery. I really don’t know what to do. By reading your page I think i probably should go through the Surgery to find out if indeed is cancer or not. I was like you I didn’t know tonsil cancer existed. I really don’t feel bad so I hope is nothing but again you never know. I was told I have to have my tonsils out to be able to be diagnose. Did you had to remove your tonsils to find out you have Cancer or was something else done to find out? I really appreciate all the help and advise I can get. Thank you in advance and God Bless you all.
I was just checking in with you to see how things are going.how are you feeling? I had a neck Disecction 3 weeks ago, they took out the remainder of the lump since rads didnt get it all. Rose—
It’s so good to see you back on here and it sounds like you are doing great. I just wanted to say hi and wish you the best results on your PET scan—I just know it will all be fine. Can’t wait to see your kitty in his pumpkin costume! :) Take care and let us hear from you once in awhile!
Hugs—
Martha
Rose,
Thanks for your words of encouragement. I found that several people have had problems with thrush which makes me feel better that I am not alone going through this. I have not lost any weight this week so I am thinking I will try to get by without the PEG. I was impressed that you went without the PEG very quickly and at how many different things you are able to eat.
Hugs
Anna
