Dan's Profile Page

Biography

My name is Dan and I live in Vancouver, BC. In late August this year, I noticed a lump on the left side of my neck and thought I was getting swollen glands. Over a four day period the swelling continued to spread across my throat – making it difficult to breathe. So I went to hospital. Found out I had had a heart attack in addition to the throat swelling.
They got the swelling under control and did a biopsy in October.
The result was squamous cancer around the lymph node.
On November 22 I had 3 stents installed to fix the heart problem.
I begin 7 weeks of radiation treatment on December 13th. My treatment will include 3 treatments with chemo in addition to the radiation.
I joined to get support and information on what I might encounter. The Dr.s have been great but there’s nothing like hearing from experienced survivors.

OMG I have a great resource for wound butter if you burn from radiation! My last radiation session was on 2/27 I went for 5 1/2 weeks and burned pretty bad but you wouldn’t believe how the wound has responded…it’s almost gone! I’ve been doing chemo since last june (3 kinds at once) now I’m only getting one kind thru this june…if I can be of any kind of help let me know…hugs to you

Hey Dan…it sucks meeting you under these circumstances…however you came to the right place! Even though, I had a really fantastic support system however unless your riding the cancer bus, its hard to understand the treatment process both physical and emotional..
I also have had two stents that were implanted on seperate occasions, long before the cancer diagnosis…and the heart thing is totally under control…
Hang in my new friend and the ability to learn, vent and divulge your fears on this amazing site will help get you through!

Hi Dan
One of the nice things about this place is that we are not segregated by cancer type. I may not be able to give you feedback specific to your cancer, but the rest of what we all go through is something I am here to support you in going. One thing I know for sure is that you won’t find a better, smarter, more inspiring bunch of people to join you on your journey. I know that’s what I found.
xoxo

Hi Dan! just a word, my mom had a type of cancer that was close to what you’re having. She then discovered it when it was already in the terminal stage and the doctors told her that chance of survival is 1% (how rude the doctors were). My mom fought very hard and to make the story short, that was already 11 years ago. My mom is now waiting to be seated to watch my graduation day. She’s now cancer free and it only took her less that 1 year to recover.

I hope you would go through this, prayers for you :)
